One of the greatest contemporary filmmakers, Alfonso Cuarón, will come to Toruń and participate in the 32nd edition of the EnergaCAMERIMAGE Festival, which begins next week. The five-time Oscar® winner will showcase his latest production – the TV series Disclaimer.
The creator of masterpieces such as Roma and Gravity is coming to Poland not only as a directing master who pays extraordinary attention to the visual aspect of his films but also as a creator who has successfully ventured into the world of television series. Disclaimer, which he directed and produced, is a production blending elements of a thriller and psychological drama. The series is based on the bestselling novel of the same title by Renée Knight. In his work, Cuarón addresses the theme of modern media and their impact on society. It is an important voice in the discussion about truth, falsehood, and trust in mass media. The main character of the series is Catherine Ravenscroft (Cate Blanchett), a renowned journalist who built her reputation by exposing the wrongdoings and sins of others. When she comes into possession of a novel by an unknown author, she is horrified to discover that she is the central character in a story that reveals her darkest secrets. As Catherine tries to uncover the true identity of the author, she must confront her past before it destroys her life and relationships with her husband Robert (Sacha Baron Cohen) and son Nicholas (Kodi Smit-McPhee). The cast of the series also includes Lesley Manville, Louis Partridge, Leila George, Hoyeon, and the narrator is Indira Varma.
During the festival, Cuarón will take part in a meeting with the audience. In addition to his Oscar-winning works, he also gained international popularity with films such as Y Tu Mamá También (2001) and Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004). His greatest success was Roma, which he not only directed but also took responsibility for its visual composition. This personal story about growing up in Mexico won three Oscars®, including Best Cinematography, and also garnered the Golden Lion in Venice and the Bronze Frog at EnergaCAMERIMAGE 2018. His latest work, Disclaimer, proves that Cuarón excels in the world of television series as well.
EnergaCAMERIMAGE is the most important film event in the world dedicated to the art of cinematographers.
